Rev. Jerri Handy
Minister of Pastoral Care and Counseling
|
Grew up in Indiana and attended Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois with a AA in Social work and a BS in Religion. In 1986 Jerri completed her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2010 Jerri Completed her Master of Divinity at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley California.
Jerri has worked in the health care industry as a nursing assistant and residential program assistant at two different Drug and Alcohol treatment facilities. Both of these experiences have helped her to understand and be comfortable in the hospital setting.
Jerri also worked in her own company as a mental health therapist for several years and worked in a public school setting in conjunction with a community mental health center.
After moving to the west coast Jerri served as leader and then Licensed Pastor of a new church, The VIEW Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). While serving this church Jerri fully understood God’s call to ordained ministry.
While living in Oregon Jerri participated in the Trauma Intervention Program Inc. this is a National program that trains citizens to reach out to citizens who are in the midst of a trauma. The training teaches specific ways to be helpful in the first few hours of a traumatic loss. Through her work with this program she has been able to respond to people in Oregon, California, and even in Haiti after the earthquake of 2010. This training and work continue to be a part of her formation and growth.
As an Ordained Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) minister, Jerri now serves CCSM as a staff Minister of Pastoral Care and Counseling. She is working this year on Standing in the United Church of Christ.
Jerri and her partner live in San Mateo.
